Background

DirecTV (stylized and trademarked as DIRECTV) is an American multichannel video programming distributor that is perhaps most known for their digital satellite service. Founded on June 27, 1994, they were purchased by AT&T for $67.1 billion on July 24, 2015, but AT&T would later spin off the company, along with U-Verse TV and DirectTV Stream, into a separate entity and also sell a 30% stake to TPG Inc. while maintaining a 70% stake in the new company, which would go through on August 2, 2021.

1st Logo (1st American logo) (2011-)

Logo: On a space background, we see a glowing blue curve with a light on the middle of it. Suddenly, the sun rises to reveal that it is a photorealistic rendition of the Earth in daytime. We then zoom out to see the silver words "DIRECTV" in FF DIN. The Earth then fades into either the 2005 DirecTV logo (2005-2015) or the 2015 AT&T logo (2016-2021) as the text centers itself with the DirecTV or AT&T logos beside it. The "V" has a light in it, which gives off a lens flare, as the light fades out when we position to a comfortable distance. The logo fades out.

Variants:

  • In 2015, it just says "DIRECTV". Underneath is the byline "Now part of the AT&T family" with the then-current AT&T globe beside it. This is basically a placeholder for the next variant.
  • Starting in 2016, the current AT&T globe in light blue replaces the DirecTV logo.
    • The globe is sometimes colored in white.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A whimsical and grand orchestral theme.

Audio Variant: Starting in 2016, it contains the AT&T's jingle at the end.

Availability: Still current and common, even after they introduced the 3rd logo in North America.

Legacy: With the spin-off from AT&T and a new logo introduced by DirecTV on August 2, 2021, this logo's days are numbered. The globe still appears on its headquarters, along with AT&T branding, likely since the company is still associated with the latter in some way.

2nd Logo (Latin American logo) (January 16, 2020)

Note: The logo starts at 1:08.

Logo: On a black background with "EN COPRODUCCION CON" above it, we see a white circle fade in, along with a ring that disappears. Around the ring, a flipped "C" with cyan accents, and beside it the words "IRECTV" fade in.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: An upbeat synth fanfare.

Availability: Seen on El Robo Del Siglo (Heist of the Century).

Legacy: A unique logo from DirecTV that was sadly wasted, only appearing on one production.

3rd Logo (2nd American logo) (2021-)

Logo: On a black background with some blue lines, we see the text from the 1st logo, only with a curved line through "DIREC".

Technique: None.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on newer versions of DirecTV when a TV set is turned off.
