Channel 1 Ostankino (Break Bumpers)

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

1st Bumper (1992)

Visuals: Over the same moving picture of a blue cloudy sky from the regular ident of the time, the blue Channel 1 Ostankino logo pans up from the bottom, zooming out to the center of the screen. Then it rotates 180° to the bottom to reveal that its back side is blue, with the text "РЕКЛАМА" in white in the middle of it. The logo then multiplies into nine blue cubes, with one of them becoming wide enough to fit the text as the other cubes fly off-screen. Then a blue rectangle with the text pans down near the bottom of the screen, rotating a bit before the picture of a cloudy sky stops moving. After a while, the rectangle slides to the right off-screen, leaving the text.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A soothing synth-guitar/piano theme.

Availability: It was used on commercial breaks (advertisments of which were produced by the Ostankino advertising agency) of Channel 1 Ostankino shows during this bumper's usage span.

2nd Bumper (1992)

Visuals: Over a colorful marble-like background, there are several light/dark gray square shapes flying to the center of the screen, along with the purple letters of the text "РЕКЛАМА" (in Cooper Black font) and colorful balls. After a second, four squares stop at the corners of the screen to face opposite directions, and gain a mirror texture. Then the golden text "РЕКЛАМА" (in the same font), slides from the right to the left five times, passing through the squares. When the text slides the final time, it stops at the center of the screen.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A synth bell fanfare with a rock sounder.

Availability: Same as the first bumper. Used on commercial breaks of Channel 1 Ostankino shows during this bumper's usage span.

3rd Bumper (December 1992-April 1993)

Opening Visuals: The bumper starts with a shot of a low-poly model of the Ostankino Tower over a blue background with thin, horizontal light blue lines. The camera turns to the left to reveal what appears to be a mostly blue news studio environment, with a teal map of the Earth on the wall. The camera zooms out to reveal a spinning blue Earth globe with turquoise continents, and an arc of the magenta text "РЕКЛАМНОЕ АГЕНТСТВО" above a globe. The golden text "ОСТАНКИНО" appears, rotating from the right to the front of the globe as the camera slows down; then, a pink round stand is revealed below the globe, along with a low-poly model of the Ostankino Tower (from the beginning of the bumper) on the right side of the screen. As the screen freeze-frames, a black-gray gradient horizontal bar fades in on the bottom of the screen; inside a bar are the phone numbers for the placement and production of advertising in white-light blue gradient, serif font.

Closing Visuals: A sped-up version of the opening bumper.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio:

  • Opening: A bombastic synth orchestra news fanfare.
  • Closing: An epic synth orchestra fanfare.

Availability: Same as the first two bumpers. Used on commercial breaks of Channel 1 Ostankino shows during this bumper's usage span.

4th Bumper (April-July 18, 1993)

Visuals: Over a black background are moving three searchlights (L-R: red, green and blue); the camera turns to the top as they form three blurred circles in the same colors and these circles rotate around the screen, while forming into one white circle. A circle turns into a lot of particles, forming the text:

Р Е К Л А М Н О Е
А Г Е Н Т С Т В О
ОСТАНКИНО

in the middle of the screen. The text gains a three-colored cloudy texture as the background fades to a dark cave wall, which ripples as the phone numbers of the production and placement of advertising in gray, fades in at the bottom of the screen; and the text goes back to its normal plain colors.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A soothing echoed synth-flute theme.

Availability: Same as the previous bumpers. Used on commercial breaks of Channel 1 Ostankino shows during this bumper's usage span.

5th Bumper (July 19, 1993-January 16, 1994)

Visuals: The camera slides to the left to reveal a signboard over a purple reflective wall, which consists of a blue reflective horizontal bar with the text:

Р Е К Л А М Н О Е
ОСТАНКИНО

with the latter word being in a tall bold font; below the text is a dark blue horizontal bar with the word "Агентство" in a script font, which glows like a neon sign; there are also two metallic spheres located between the text. Then, the camera zooms out to reveal that a signboard is sandwiched between multiple thin, cylindrical, horizontal purple lines with several attached metallic spheres. During that, a two-colored shiny bar slides in at the bottom-right corner of the screen, which consists of an orange line and a purple part with the phone numbers of the production and placement of advertising in white.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: A powerful synth bell theme with electronic durms.

Availability: Same as the previous bumpers.

6th Bumper (January 17, 1994-March 31, 1995)

Opening Visuals: The bumper starts with the camera zooming out, revealing a silver rotary telephone dial of a metallic payphone with four nails on each corner of it. Then the camera pans down to reveal a signboard below, consisting of a silver rounded rectangle with four nails on each corner of it, the black text:

РЕКЛАМА - ХОЛДИНГ
ЗАКАЗЫ НА РАЗМЕЩЕНИЕ
РЕКЛАМЫ

near the top of a singboard, a thin square outline with the Channel 1 Ostankino print logo in the middle left of a signboard, and the phone and fax numbers in black near the bottom of a signboard. The camera zooms out to reveal a silver wall, on which the poorly-done drawings like the phone numbers, the Channel 1 Ostankino logo, and a heart with a shoot arrow are depicted, with a hanging black handset on the left side of the screen, and three cubes (in RGB colors) jumping on a stand on the right side of the screen. A silver wall turns out to be inside a small silver telephone booth with two transparent blue Channel 1 Ostankino logos on the left and right walls of a telephone booth, and the words "ТЕЛЕВДИЕНИЕ" on each wall of it above the logos. A poorly-drawn white letter "т" is seen depicted on a pole of a telephone booth. The camera turns slightly to the right as an arc of the rainbow text "Реклама" in a script font is revealed on a concrete wall behind a telephone booth, along with a shadow of the Ostankino Tower on the right side of the screen. The word "ОстанкинО" (except for the previously mentioned letter "т" which is already in its place) draws itself via spray-painting on a concrete wall, in the location of which the letter "т" is located.

Closing Visuals: Everything from the opening bumper is already in their places, but the animation of the camera is faster and reversed until it zooms into the signboard on a payphone; Three spotlights (in RGB colors) appear sliding from each corner of a signboard, shining through it.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio:

  • Opening: A deep rock note accompanied by a rotary telephone dial sound, followed by a hip-hop beat which starts with a stock sound of a man saying "Hey!", accompanied by a synth bell sounder, and ends with an orchestral hit.
  • Closing: A shortened, high-pitched version of an opening music, which includes a 5-note rock tune. An orchestral hit at the end is followed by the three phone ringing sounds.

Availability: Same as the previous bumpers.
