Background

Cave Interactive Co. Ltd. is a Japanese video game company founded in 1994 by former employees of Toaplan following its bankruptcy. They are largely known for their bullet hell shoot-em-up arcade games, most having a cult following by the genre's fans, including DonPachi, which subsequently sparked the DoDonPachi franchise and its different sequels. Besides that, Cave has also released other games for home consoles, arcades, mobile devices and PCs. Cave is an acronym for "Computer Art Visual Entertainment".

1st Logo (May 1995)

Visuals: On a black background, a Earth-like globe falls down, bounces and rotates, containing the red extruded text "CAVE" at the front. The logo then faces into perspective.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The announcer saying "Presented by Cave".

Availability: Seen only on DonPachi for the arcades.

2nd Logo (February 1997-July 21, 2005)

Visuals: Over a white background, there is an orange square where the outline of a digital-style "C" is shown in a left-looking perspective. "cave", in a lowercase monospaced font is seen below it.

Variants:

  • Earlier games featured an animated variant of the logo where the "C" emerges from the square as a 3D model and briefly spins in its place as the red outline appears and zooms out; it flashes once they collide as the text fades in. The logo's also behind a larger, barely noticeable square if you look closely.
  • Many arcade games have the "INSERT COIN" text from the game flashing on the screen.

Technique: A still, digital image. CGI on the animated variant.

Audio: None; though a voiceover of "Presented by Cave" can be heard on the animated variant.

Availability: Mostly appears on arcade games, such as the DoDonPachi games, Progear, Espgaluda and Ketsui. The animated version appears on Fever S.O.S. (aka Dangun Feveron), ESP Ra.De. and Guwange. Also appears on several console games which were mostly Japan exclusives.

3rd Logo (July 15, 2005-)

Visuals: Over a white background, the logo starts with the same outline of the "C", plain and in red, with the "cave" text in green.

Variants:

  • Again like the case of the second logo, the "INSERT COIN" text of the game will appear flashing on arcade systems.
  • Sometimes, the logo is superimposed in the staff credits. It was only seen on the 2008 Nintendo DS game of Ohimesama Debut.

Technique: A still, digital image.

Audio: None.

Audio Variant: On the 2008 Nintendo DS game of Ohimesama Debut, the ending theme is heard.

Availability: It debuted on Ibara and began appearing on other titles, such as both the Deathsmiles games, and HD remasters of earlier titles.
