Background

C-Lab is a Tokyo-based software company founded on March 3, 1990. They developed games for the PC-98, SNES, PS1, and several other consoles, most namingly those relating to mahjong and others in the puzzle genre.

1st Logo (July 16, 1993-June 17, 1994)

Visuals: On a black background, the company name in a cyan-white-lime gradient, stylized font, and a period at the end ripples in while the background becomes white. While the latter animation occurs, the logo becomes dark blue.

Technique: 16-bit animation.

Audio: After the background changes, an ascending set of chimes play, followed by a muffled male announcer saying "Copyright by C-Lab Corporation" in accented English.

Availability: Only seen on Rusty and Totsugeki! Mix for PC-98. For the most part, C-Lab was a developer of most of their games rather than a publisher, meaning this logo did not appear too much back then.

2nd Logo (November 27, 1997-October 15, 1998)

Visuals: The camera pans through a city setting at night, soaring in the air and above the gray-gold skyscraper on the left. It turns below and faces the logo from before in gray against a downward aerial view of the city. The logo flashes and gains a teal glow while the background crossfades to black.

Technique: 64-bit animation.

Audio: A synthesized whoosh until a crash sound as the logo lights up.

Availability: Only seen on GranDread for the Sega Saturn and Shisenfu Gekikara Mahjong for PS1.

3rd Logo (February 26, 1998)

Visuals: On a fern green, foggy surface sits a cloud-textured egg spinning around while the camera pans down to face it on its side. At this point, the egg morphs into the logo from before, lighting up and turning the background to black as well as the logo to sky blue.

Technique: 64-bit animation.

Audio: A soft, synth piano piece.

Availability: Only seen on Choro-Q Jet: Rainbow Wings for PS1.
