Background

Buka Entertainment a Russian game publisher and localizer, founded in 1994. In 2008, it was acquired and merged into its main competitor 1C Publishing. However, the company still operates as a separate brand.

1st Logo (1998-2008)

Nickname: "Curious Nose"

Logo: There is a blue spot on the floor and two red eyes to the right. The eyes move to the spot, and we see the red nose entering in and smiling. The word "Бука" appear near there in a script font, with a full name being flashed below: "BUKA ENTERTAINMENT". The logo shines, causing a ping of light to form the registered mark on the top-right of "Бука".

Variant:

  • In Nuclear Titbit, the orange letter Я in the painted font falls down and smashes "у" in "Бука" into pieces to read "БЯка".
  • In Lokhotronschik: Crazy Loto (Лохотронщик: Crazy Loto), the logo is animated in the claymation style like the rest of the game.

FX/SFX: The nose moving, the name is written.

Music/Sounds: Some synth xylophone-like tinkles, a high string note with a faint drumroll, a couple of pizzicato notes, then followed by the triumphant fanfare similar to those you'll hear in every old Russian role-playing game, then an array of whooshes and laser zaps ending with a ding.

Music/Sound Variants:

  • In the logo's early years the music composition was pretty different, but similiar. The ding is synchronized perfectly with the ping of the light that forms the registered mark.
  • There is also a very rare trumpet version.

Availability: Common. Seen on Russian games published and foreign games localized. Early games, which are hardly known even in the local country, have the logo still.

Editor's Note: A favorite among Russian gamers.

2nd Logo (2008- )

Logo: The word "Бука" flashes its way through the black background, making it red. When it fully reveals, some words flash in below: "Издательство развлечений ("Entertainment publishing house")".

Variant: An international version exists, where the logo is encapsulated into an oval-like figure with a circle below. The company name is written in English with the byline "Entertainment publishing".

FX/SFX: Light rays.

Music/Sounds: A mellow musical choir with a blinking sound.

Availability: Uncommon. Seen on latest games, like Collapse.

Editor's Note: None.
