Background

Boat Drinks, LLC was a small software development team based in Danville, California. They are notable for their part in the creation of the 1998 PlayStation version of the 1979 Atari game Asteroids, with Michael Latham as co-lead designer on the project.

Logo (October 31, 1998)

Visuals: On a white background is a man wearing a suit and tie and a fedora. Below him is a metal structure that has tall red text that reads "BOAT DRINKS LLC" with a metallic disc-shaped sphere to the left of it. Five bullet shots miss the logo. The logo then slowly fades out.

Variants:

  • There exists a prototype version. The man is zoomed in further and is bigger than the logo; a bit more of the man below the logo can also be seen.
  • An extended version exists where after a pause, six more shots are fired. Two of them miss again, two of them ricochet off the logo, and the final two hit the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Synthesized sounds of the bullets missing the logo, sounding like a gun with a silencer on it.

Audio Variants:

  • The extended version features extended sound effects. The two missed shots are the same as the previous five, the two shots that hit the logo have a metallic ricochet sound, the final two shots use the same silencer gun style, but sound as though they were impacting into a person. The sound of a body slumping onto the ground is then heard.
  • None for the prototype.

Availability: Seen on Asteroids for the PS1. The extended version was found on development files for said game.
