Bickley/Warren Productions

Background

This is the production company of William Bickley and Michael Warren, formed around 1991. The company worked closely with Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett's Miller-Boyett Productions.

Prior to forming the company, Bickley and Warren wrote episodes of Perfect Strangers and created Family Matters. Even after forming their own company, Bickley and Warren created Step by Step and Getting By, and they also continued to produce Family Matters. They also worked on two non-Miller-Boyett shows, Kirk and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper (starting with season 3, when Bickley and Warren became co-showrunners).

In 1997, Warren ended his partnership with Bickley, effectively ending the company. Afterwards, Warren joined Miller and Boyett, renaming Miller-Boyett Productions to Miller-Boyett-Warren Productions. Despite this, the Bickley/Warren name remained in use until Family Matters and Step by Step ended their runs.

Logo (September 20, 1991-July 17, 1998)

Visuals: Just an in-credit logo with "Bickley-Warren" written in a cursive font, slanted at an angle, with "PRODUCTIONS" in a small print extended to fit the text above it.

Early Variant: An early version of the logo is seen on the unaired pilot of Step by Step.

Later Variant:

  • Starting in 1996, the logo, colored like the credit text in Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, would reveal itself piece by piece, over footage of television static noise. This first appeared on the Family Matters season 8 episode "Stevil" and it's also seen on the final two seasons of Step by Step as well as the final seasons of Hangin' with Mr. Cooper and Kirk.
  • On current HD remaster prints of season 7 of Step by Step, the animation is enhanced, and static is more realistic than usual. The text appears as usual.
  • On the second and final season of Kirk, an in association with text would fade in below.

Technique: None. Computer animation for the animated variant.

Audio: The end theme of the show. The animated variant usually has the sound of static playing. CBS airings from 1997-98 played a generic theme.

Audio Variant: On a 1996 ABC airing of Family Matters, the animated variant is silent.

Availability: Seen on Family Matters, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper (both starting with their third seasons), Kirk, and Step by Step.
