Amiga

Background

Amiga is a family of personal computers manufactured by Commodore. The first PC in the family, Amiga 2000, was released in 1985. Later models include the Amiga 500, the Amiga 3000, and the Amiga 600. The last in the lineup were the Amiga 1200 and Amiga 4000 in 1992. In total, they sold an estimated 4.85 million units.

1st Startup (July 23, 1985-October 1987)

Visuals: On a white background, there is an outline of a hand holding a blue floppy disk. The label reads "AMIGA Work bench" in a stacked format. Underneath the disk is the workbench version number (e.g. "V 1.3").

Variant: On the Amiga 1000, "Work bench" is replaced with "Kick start" and the version number is removed.

Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen when an Amiga 1000 and an Amiga 500 boots up. This screen is there to remind the user to insert a floppy disk into the hard drive.

2nd Startup (October 21, 1992-1996)

Visuals: On a dark purple background, on the left hand side, two rainbow-colored check marks are seen on top of the stacked text

To the right is a blue floppy disk being inserted into a light orange hard drive, initially remaining still for a few seconds. This sequence repeats throughout the boot screen.

Technique: Sprite-based animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen when an Amiga 1200 is booted.
