07th Expansion

Background

07th Expansion is a doujin circle founded by Ryukishi07 and Yatazakura in 2000. The company is the creator of the When They Cry series of visual novels. The series debuted with the first episode of the first installment, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, in August 2002. The series ended up spawning 9 episodes, and was soon after adapted to an anime adaptation by Studio Deen, as well as receiving other adaptations in manga and light novel formats. In 2007, the company published the first part of Umineko no Naku Koro ni, which ended up in 8 episodes and also received a partial anime adaptation by Studio Deen, as well as a manga adaptation with artwork done by multiple artists. The company is currently developing the Ciconia no Naku Koro ni series, the franchise's third installment.

The company's founder, Ryukishi07, has also worked for several other companies, including Key with the production of Rewrite, and Konami with the Okami and Silent Hill series.

Availability:

The black background variant appears on the NDS port of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna, and the PC releases of Umineko: Golden Fantasia and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou.
The white background variant appears on the PS3 and PSP ports of Umineko no Naku Koro ni, and the console ports of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou.
