Background
WIC Entertainment was the production and distribution arm of Western International Communications. At the time of closure, they were the owner of Superchannel, MovieMax!, BCTV, CHEK, CICT, CITV, and CISA, and the co-owner of Family, Teletoon, and Report on Business Television.
1st Logo (December 15, 1991)
Logo: On a black and gray marble background is a giant silver "WIC" with a red compass inside the "C". Blue shadow effects appear underneath. Below that is "In Association With" in Souvenir font (kinda similar to the IAW version of the 1991 CPT logo).
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: The closing theme to the TV movie.
Availability: Ultra rare. It's seen on Christmas on Division Street.
Editor's Note: None.
2nd Logo (November 9, 1992)
Logo: This time, it's an in-credit logo with the same logo from before (except in 2-D) and below that is "WESTERN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS" in white with shadow effects.
FX/SFX: None, unless you want to count the fading in of the logo.
Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the program.
Availability: Ultra rare. This appears on Fatal Memories, which can be found on Hulu.
Editor's Note: None.
3rd Logo (January 17, 1994-February 9, 1996)
Logo: On a dark background, we see the "WIC" letters in silver (and without the red compass) above the words "Western International Communications Ltd."
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: The ending theme of any show.
Availability: Seen on shows like TekWar, '90s prints of SCTV, and the TV movie Black Fox.
Editor's Note: None.
4th Logo (October 5, 1996-January 10, 1999)
Nickname: "The WIC Clouds"
Logo: On a purple background with vivid clouds, we see the WIC logo next to the unfolding words "WIC ENTERTAINMENT" aligned like this:
Variants:
- The text would vary on certain shows.
- On Nilus the Sandman, "WIC" is replaced with "WESTCOM" (a combination of "Western" and "Communications").
- On Kleo the Misfit Unicorn, the background is darker and "WIC" is set beneath the logo with "WESTERN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS LTD." beneath it.
FX/SFX: Moving clouds and unfolding letters.
Music/Sounds: The ending theme of any show.
Availability: Seen on Emily of New Moon and the first season of Donkey Kong Country.
Editor's Note: None.
5th Logo (March 2, 1997-April 2, 2002)
Nicknames: "The Spotlights", "Entertaining"
Logo: On a dark gray/orange background, we see lightmen preparing to turn on the spotlights. The spotlights are on, then they join together to create the same WIC logo from the previous logo with the words:
with WIC under the WIC logo and "ENTERTAINMENT LTD." under the platform. Behind the logo is the blurred orange word “e n t e r t a i n i n g”.
Variants:
- Most shows produced by WIC-owned stations, such as newscasts, have "TELEVISION LTD." instead of "ENTERTAINMENT LTD.".
- On the Japanese dub of Donkey Kong Country, the logo is in-credit and animated in the custom ending theme.
- On Mentors, the words "PREMIUM TELEVISION" appear below the WIC logo.
FX/SFX: The searchlights.
Music/Sounds: A triumphant orchestral tune. On some shows, the ending theme is played.
Availability: The "Entertainment" variant is seen on shows co-produced by WIC for cable and syndication, such as the last season of Donkey Kong Country on Teletoon, as well as Emily of New Moon, Higher Ground, Total Recall 2070 and The Country Mouse and the City Mouse Adventures. The "Television" variant was seen on most shows produced by WIC Television-owned and co-owned stations.
Editor's Note: None.
