Background

RenderWare is the massively-used game engine developed by Criterion Studios.

1st Logo (1999-2000)

Visuals: On a white background, a C-shaped row of yellow balls appears moving on and surrounded by another row of red balls, which just fade in. Then, the text "RenderWare" materialises next to the rings and a gray number "3" zooms back rotating next to "RenderWare".

Variants:

  • There is a still prototype variant which takes place on a black background, and the color rings face down and have a 3D effect. The name (without "3") is below it.
  • There is a still version of the logo with a copyright notice below.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A harsh electronic jingle, followed by a rather loud whoosh. The still variants are silent.

Availability: The animated version can be seen on Deep Fighter for Dreamcast and Aqua Aqua for PS2. The still black-background version appeared on TrickStyle, while the still version with the copyright notice can be seen on Rayman Revolution for PS2.

2nd Logo (October 22, 2001-2002)

Visuals: On a light blue background, three colored shapes appear, each accompanied with a name of a RenderWare component, which dissolves immediately. Blue comes first with Graphics, green with Audio and pink with Physics. Then the shapes zoom back and "RenderWare" in a black, shiny font zooms in below them. There is also "PLATFORM" below.

Variants:

  • There are still variants. One of them has a yellow background, and another has a black background and is missing "PLATFORM".
  • On Grand Theft Auto III, the fades in on a black background with the "PLATFORM" text. Also, the text is in a light gray font.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Three "bing" sounds followed by a synthesised charging-up-like sound.

Audio Variant: On the PS2 version of Scooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frights, the logo is silent.

Availability: Appeared on the first Burnout, City Crisis and MegaRace 3, among others. The black-background version was seen on Frank Herbert's Dune, while the yellow-background variant appears on Antz: Extreme Racing.

3rd Logo (2002-)

Visuals: Over a white or black background, the silver relief word "RenderWare" in the same font as the previous logo zooms out rapidly and stops.

Variant:

  • On programs packaged in the RenderWare Software Development Kit, the text was used as an on-screen bug on the bottom left and is abbreviated "RW".
  • Some games have the logo in-credit.
  • Later games have the logo fading in.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None, or the game's opening theme in some games.

Availability: Can be seen on many games using this engine. The variant with "Graphics" appeared on Donkey Xote for PSP. The in-credit version appears in Sonic Heroes, as well as some other games.
