Background

Dynamix, Inc. was an American video game developer operating founded in 1984 in Eugene, Oregon. In August 1990, it was bought by Sierra On-Line. They are mostly known for Red Baron and The Incredible Machine. In 2001, the company was shut down after a reorganization within Sierra On-Line. Members would later go on to create GarageGames, makers of the Torque game engine, and Mad Otter Games.

1st Logo (1989)

Visuals: Depends on the game used, but it usually consists of a thick red brush stroke over the text "Dynamix" in white.

Variants:

  • Motocross has the text in black, as well as having "A" and "PRODUCTION" above and below it respectively. It shares the screen with the Gamestar logo.
  • On the original release of A-10 Tank Killer, the logo is on a black background, colored red with a white gradient, and "PRESENTS" appears below in a very spaced out font.
  • Ghostbusters II has the "A" from the Motocross variant appear. The streak then flies in and spreads out, with "Dynamix" appearing below in white, and "PRODUCTION" appears below.
  • Deathtrack is like the above variant, but the text is already there, with the streak just wiping in.
  • Die Hard has the white text logo alone, with "VISIONARY ENTERTAINMENT" on the bottom of the screen.

Technique: Depends on the variant.

Audio: None or the opening theme to the game.

Availability: First seen on Motocross, and later seen on most other games from that year. Most early titles don't mention the logo.

2nd Logo (1990-1995)

Visuals: On a navy blue gradient background, the same logo from before appears, but with the text in red and having the byline "PART OF THE SIERRA FAMILY" below. A ping appears on the streak.

Variants:

  • On Sid and Al's Incredible Toons, the logo is still with a blue drop shadow on a black background. Similar to the Sierra logo, a small blue furry monster comes in and points at the logo, saying the company name.
  • On Front Page Sports: Football Pro, the logo is positioned at a slight downwards angle, and the streak is silver with a red outline around it. A football flies in and bounces off the logo.
  • On Mechatech: Battledrome and Mechatech: Earthsiege, the logo is shown on a black background at first. A gray streak then appears below and reveals the Sierra byline with a ping on the end.
  • On Aces of the Deep, the logo is shown rising up in the ocean, with some water rippling on top. The logo here is colored with whitish-blues, and whirring and a click play in time with the logo.

Technique: Sprite-based animation.

Audio: A series of synth drones that differ on each game, or depends on the game.

Availability: Seen on most of their games starting with the remake of Stellar 7. On some titles though, the logo would be replaced with the 1st Sierra On-Line logo, and eventually stuck in the logo with it.

3rd Logo (June 4, 1998-April 13, 2001)

Visuals: On a black background, several orange lasers fly pass each other to form "Dynamix" letter by letter, flashing orange and rotating towards the screen as they do. When the last letter is formed, two orange lasers sweep across to form the streak above. A white glow then appears below the logo, revealing itself as the Sierra logo and forming the byline "A SIERRA COMPANY".

Technique: 3D animation.

Audio: Phaser sounds when the letters are formed, ending with a long drone for the streak. A whoosh is also heard.

Availability: It first appeared on CyberStorm 2: Corporate Wars, and is seen on the studio's games Sierra published only under the "Sierra Studios" label.
