Background

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) (English: Radio Television of Malaysia) is the national public broadcaster of Malaysia. Established on April 1, 1946 as Radio Malaya, it is the first and oldest broadcaster in the country. Currently, it operates six television channels (TV1, TV2, TV Okey, Berita RTM, Sukan RTM, and TV6) and thirty-four radio stations nationwide.

1st Logo (December 28, 1978)

Visuals: Superimposed over live-action footage is the the RTM logo from the time (an eyelid-like symbol with the outside being yellow and orange, the sclera being teal, and the pupil being blue) with a teal inner border and an outer border that changes color.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A horn fanfare.

2nd Logo (1978?-December 1987)

Visuals: Over a blue background is the RTM logo from the time, with PERSEMBAHAN above it, depending on if it's uppercase or lowercase.

Variant:

  • A variant with the background being teal exists, with "PERSEMBAHAN" being yellow and in a different font.
  • A superimposed variant exists. "persembahan" is replaced with "penerbit", and the publisher's name is present.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the program or none.

Availability: Appeared on programmes of the time, such as Anugerah Seri Angkasa and Melodi Kasih Di Hari Krismas.

3rd Logo (December 27, 1987-July 31, 2004)


Visuals: Against the space background as seen in the RTM1 ident, an orange flash appears. The RTM logo from the time (a globe symbol within a silver square and a blue banner with rtm on it horizontally covering part of it) zooms in. The channel's slogan, "Teman Setia Anda", then writes in underneath the logo, followed by an orange line under the text.

Technique: CGI. The space background is taken from Cascom, an American motion graphics company.

Audio: A bombastic fanfare with a group of people singing "RTM... Teman Setia Anda! (RTM... Your Loyal Friend!)"

4th Logo (in-credit variant) (1987?-July 31, 2004)

Visuals: Appearing at the end of the credits of the program, the RTM logo appears, usually below the penerbit and the name of the publisher. The copyright information may or may not appear at the end of the bottom.

Variant: Some shows have "untuk" above the RTM logo.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Appeared at the end of original programs that aired on the company's channels, such as Opah and Debu-Debu Di Jalanan.

5th Logo (50th Anniversary variant) (April? 1996)

Visuals: The first element shown is a hanging microphone on a white wall background with a red quadrilateral and green, blue, and red lines. The screen splits into different types of shapes and transform into different scenes depicting the company's history, revealing the company's older logos. The screen is also revealed to be overlapped over a sky background. Here is a list of transformations and screens revealed:

  • The screen splits into multiple jigsaw pieces and transforms into a white background where the Radio Malaya logo (the letters "RM" within an outlined circle) is with the text "1953" over a vertical red line.
  • The screen splits into nine quadrilaterals and transforms into a gray background with a green radio with the text "RADIO" behind it.
  • The screen splits into multiple odd-looking shapes and transforms into a purple-aquamarine-gray-blue background with the TV Malaysia logo at the center of the screen. The text "1963" is also spaced by the logo at the center of the screen.
  • The screen splits into nine quadrilaterals and transforms into a background with a television displaying a static and the text "TV" on it. There are also four other TVs in the background.
  • The screen splits into multiple triangles and a ten-pointed star and transforms into a brown background with the text "1969" at the bottom right of the screen with multiple blurry clones of it above it. The RTM logo from the aforementioned year (the rtm text within two rounded quadrilaterals joined together) is at the left of the background.
  • The screen splits into multiple odd-looking shapes and transforms into a background with a satellite with multiple other satellites tinted orange in the background.
  • The screen splits into multiple zig-zag-like shapes and transforms into a blue-orange background with the RTM logo from 1978 and the aforementioned year underneath it.
  • The screen splits into multiple odd-looking shapes and transforms into a space background with a space station orbiting around the Earth.
  • The screen splits into multiple quadrilaterals and transforms into a blue background with the RTM logo from the time along with the slogan in yellow underneath it. The text "1987" is spaced by the logo.
  • The screen splits into nine quadrilaterals and transforms into a background with multiple computers.
  • The screen splits into nine quadrilaterals again and transforms into the final product of the logo: A blue background with RTM's 50th anniversary logo (the RTM globe within the 0 a giant 50, with multiple silver shapes, red triangles, the text "1946 1996" above the 0, and the text Tahun (Years)). Below the logo reads the stacked text "JASA DIKENANG MENDUKUNG WAWASAN (REMEMBERED SERVICE SUPPORTS VISION)}}.

Availability: So far, it's known to have appeared on an episode of Istimewa Bersama from 1996.

6th Logo (in-credit variant) (August 1, 2004?-2021?)

Visuals: At the end of the credits, which depends on if it scrolls or not, the RTM logo (redesigned to show a different wordmark in indigo with a flame-like portion of the logo and an orange ball around it) can be seen. "© Hak Cipta Terpelihara [YEAR]" can be seen under the logo.

Variant: Sometimes, the copyright info is next to the right side of the logo, and the company's name is above it.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: It isn't seen on many programmes of the time. It can be found on broadcasts of programmes from the era, such as sports-exclusive events, Vasantham, and Berita Nasional.

7th Logo (January? 2011-2018?)

Visuals: Over a black background is the rtm logo flying to the center in two different ways, depending on the logo.

  • One variant shows the colored square-thorns spiraling around to the left of the screen as the rtm logo flies to the center of the screen with a reflection appearing below. As the logo then does a full turn, Persembahan appears as the letters get close together. As a light flashes at the top right of the m, copyright info and the company's website URL appear at the bottom right of the screen, depending if the letters appear one by one, or they fade in.
  • Another variant shows the logo spinning until it settles its position, forming a trail which disappears rapidly. Different copyright info from the other variant fades in underneath the logo.
    • A sub-variant exists where the JAKIM logo transitions in and its website URL appearing under, taking place above the rtm logo. This appeared on programmes affiliated with the former company of the time.
    • There is also a reanimated version of this variant, where an orange light is present as the logo spins and a blue light flashes as the copyright info wipes in.

Variant: A still variant exists where the logo is in 2D.

Technique: 3D CGI for the normal variants. None for the still variant.

Availability: Appeared at the end of original programs that aired on the company's channels at the time, such as Titik Sentuhan, Adi Genius, and Kacang.

8th Logo (2015-2019)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a violet light trail resembling the rtm logo zoom away from us. The rtm logo then appears and settles at its usual position as the light trail disappears. Persembahan appears letter by letter above as the logo does a full X-axis rotation. A light flashes on top of the logo as copyright info, the company's name, and the website URL appears letter by letter at the bottom right of the screen.

Variants:

  • Starting from 2016, the light trail had been changed to light blue.
  • There is a variant where the JAKIM logo in a white square is above the RTM logo.

Technique: 3D CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Appeared at the end of original programs that aired on the company's channels at the time, such as Panorama and Destinasia. You may also find this logo on documentaries.

9th Logo (2017)

Visuals: Four blue light rays fly in on a black background, creating a flash along with glowing dust particles and a blue-white shape resembling the rtm logo, with Persembahan above it and copyright info at the bottom right of it. The actual logo then wipes in. After a few seconds, the screen flashes, making everything disappear.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Only appeared on a few programmes that aired on the company's channels, such as a music video from the company that aired on TV2 around 2017.

10th Logo (2019-early 2021)

Visuals: Over a black surface, the border of the rtm logo forms before it is filled to completely replicate the logo. Below the logo, © Hak Cipta Terpelihara [YEAR] appears character by character as the camera turns to face the logo and the copyright info. A very dim light fades in at the bottom left of the screen, and a flash appears at the top left of the r before fading.

Technique: 3D CGI.

Audio: Either none or the ending theme of the show.

Availability: Appeared on the company's programmes from the time, such as Mini Sains and Salam Manis.

11th Logo (early-March 31, 2021)

Visuals: Against a gray gradient background, there are three different views of blue, orange, white, and gray layers being formed, resembling the shape of the rtm text. The screen pans to the right on the r, down on the t, and right on the m. The text tilts as it moves from us slightly as the gradient background turns navy and the orange flare-resembling portion of the logo forms around the text as the ball reveals itself and flashes, while the company name and copyright info wipes in below the logo, as a shadow appears behind the logo.

Technique: 3D CGI.

Audio: Either none or a long, held eerie chord note accompanied by silent roaring-like noises.

Availability: Appeared on the company's programmes from the time, such as Rumah Di Hujung Jalan, Kalung, Kami San Afrika, and Dimensi Teknologi.

12th Logo (April 1, 2021-)

Visuals: Depending on the color of an animated background is the RTM logo (redesigned to make the curve of the r longer to have an orange gradient and the ball at the middle of the curve) with copyright info next to it. Both are spaced by a vertical line.

Variant: On many programmes that use this logo, the logo is on a periwinkle gradient background with a crystal-like structure moving from us.

Availability: Seen at the end of news programmes from the company, such as Berita Perdana. It also appeared on Cuit Sikit.

13th Logo (in-credit variant) (April 1, 2021-)

Visuals: It's mostly similar to the 6th logo, but with the current RTM logo.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: Seen at the end of some programmes from the company, such as Infiniteen and Berita Wilayah.

14th Logo (April 1-mid 2021)

Visuals: Multiple orange lights appear and rotate around on a black background. One of the lights rotate rapidly, forming an oval shape, as five blue rectangles appear to form the rtm text. The light disappears to elongate the curve of the r and make the sphere appear. The logo shines, and a light blue light appears underneath the logo and rotates as the slogan in Century Gothic fades in. The light blue light then disappears, as both the logo and the slogan zoom away from us.

Technique: 2D CGI.

Audio: Either none or an eleven-note electronic tune accompanied by zapping sounds and a light piano note.

Availability: Seen on the company's programmes from the time, such as Nafas Prihatin.

15th Logo (mid 2021-2022)

Visuals: On a grey background, a light flashes at the top of the screen as Terbitan appears letter by letter, a blue light passes to the right of the screen, and the rtm logo along with its slogan "TEMAN SETIA ANDA (YOUR LOYAL FRIEND)" appears, depending on the type of action:

  • It may spin away from us along with its slogan until they stop zooming away from us.
    • Sometimes, an orange light appears and forms an outlined oval for a brief time, and the logo shines.
  • The orange light may fly around as the text forms until the light creates an oval to form the curve of the r, forming the entire logo with the orange ball appearing at the center of the curve. The slogan appears when the light dims.

The light then dims a bit and the company's name appears under the slogan. Copyright info appears letter by letter at the bottom.

Variant: There is a variant where the logo is on a solid grey background, and it fades in along with the slogan underneath it and the JAKIM logo above it, as "Terbitan" and the copyright info wipe in.

Audio: Either none or the ending theme of the show.

Availability: Seen on the company's programmes from the time, such as Cinta Yang Tertangguh, Imamku Okey, Kau? C.E.O Aku?, Misi Seramedi, Impian Remi, Kalis Peluru, and Sutera Bayu.

16th Logo (2022-2023)

Visuals: On a grey gradient background with a light at the centre and floating dust particles at the bottom, a flash appears, making a golden sphere appear. The rtm logo forms as the sphere flies to its position in the logo, the slogan writes in underneath the logo in cursive, and "Terbitan" wipes in above the logo. A light passes through the logo, which later does a full rotation and turns into a 2D image as the company name and copyright info wipe in at the bottom of the screen. The logo shines.

Variants:

  • On Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah, the background omits the dust particles, the logo is at the left, as the Arkib Negara Malaysia logo zooms in at the right and the name of the aforementioned company appears letter by letter. The company name at the bottom of the screen is omited, and both "Terbitan" and the copyright info are in grey.
  • On JAKIM-affiliated programmes from the time, the logo is on a black background, is smaller, and the JAKIM logo is above it. The slogan and the copyright info are also in white. "Terbitan" also fades in when the RTM logo rotates.

Availability: Seen on the company's programmes from the time, such as Inspektor Babyface, Ana Ponti, and Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah.

17th Logo (April 27, 2023-February 2024)

Visuals: On a paper sheet with dots, a sketch of the rtm logo draws itself, followed by a model resembling the sketch appearing. The colours in the model of the logo form, along with the slogan, Teman Setia Anda underneath it, as we face toward the logo. As the logo shines and the screen zooms away from it a bit, "Terbitan" wipes in above the logo, along with the company's name and copyright info under the logo.

Variants:

  • On A.M. Show, due to its aspect ratio being 9:16, the logo is cropped.
  • At the end of a promo for a viral video produced by one of the company's departments, the text "MEDIA DIGITAL INTERAKTIF" flies in letter by letter, settling under "Terbitan", which wipes in.

Availability: Seen on the company's programmes from the time, such as Darah Merdeka. It also appears on telefilms from the company, such as Azan Terakhir.

18th Logo (January 1, 2024-)

Visuals: A white gradient background with thin, white outlined circles that zoom towards the screen is first shown. A tilted view of the RTM logo from before completely in indigo then as multiple outlines resembling the logo fly towards and merge with it from the screen, while the camera tilts and zooms out. As the camera zooms out, the logo shines. By the time the camera settles, the actual logo zooms out and places itself on its usual position as it shines, the slogan in cursive wipes in under it and the copyright stamp and the full company name stacked together flip in at the bottom of the screen. The logo then shines again.

Availability: Seen on recent broadcasts of Selamat Pagi Malaysia.
