Background

RVU is one of the broadcasters without members that is part of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting. The broadcaster, together with Teleac/NOT, formed the Educom (Educational Broadcasting Combination Foundation).

1st ID (1983-1986)

Visuals: On a black background, a slanted lime shape slides in, which shortens to form a slanted, thin bar. This is then followed by two other slanted shapes, one shortening to a medium, and the other to a thick bar. Then, "educatieve" and "omroep" slide below and between the slanted bars, and the word "rvu" wipes in above the slanted bars.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A triumphant, synthesized theme.

2nd ID (1987-1988)

Visuals: On a yellow-gold gradient background, there is a separated 6x6 group of aquamarine-red gradient cubes. They start rotating altogether, with the other three red cubes (from the 1st, 3rd, 5th columns and 6th row) transforming to the letters for "rvu" which settle in together to the middle-left, with the cubes lining up to form three bars with the aforementioned colors. Then they become to the slanted bars, now colored green. "educatieve omroep" appears below.

Variant: At sign offs, the animation plays in reverse.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A reworked and altered synth theme of the above.

3rd ID (1994-1998?)

Visuals: On a white background, a column with 8 rows slides down, with each of the rows having various actions. It then slides back in with the 5th row replaced with a gray square with the letter "r". This is then followed by two other 8 rowed columns, with the 5th rows being replaced with the same color and with "v" and "u". As they place together, the gray squares turn green. A gray blue animated dove can be seen flying out of the 6th row, then shortly returns back to it's position, making it stay in a loop.

Variant: When the ident was updated in 1997, it shows the final result of the logo, although three of the colums slide down then back for a moment, turning the squares to green, and making the letters and the shapes to transform into the then-current logo, and "educatieve omroep" appears next to it.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A synthesized beat with instruments. Prior to 1997, it was changed to a violin tune.

4th ID (Mid 2000s-2007?)

Visuals: The logo starts with footage of a camera panning to a city in a fast pace colored with a green tint. Overlaid in it is the RVU logo and "educatieve omroep" next to it, with the URL in black on the upper-left corner. The semi-blurred slanted bars symbol is seen from the middle in white, with a black arrow shape on the third row. Another faint symbol of it slides from the left. The footage then somewhat changes to a clip of walking people, then turns into a green background. It then turns back to said footage, before turning completely green. The faint symbol abruptly appears again before fading out completely. The other symbol appears to be barely fainted, before increasing back to it's current color. The black arrow shape then changes direction, and the Publieke Omroep logo appears on the lower-left corner.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: Projector sounds, before tuning into a somewhat loud reversed clang.

5th ID (2007)

Visuals: Over a black background is the word "rvu", now in a sans serif font. The slanted bars are shortened into the same size of the word. Underneath is "laat je niks wijsmaken".

Technique: Possibly none.

Audio: Unknown.

6th ID (2009-2010)

Visuals: The logo starts with camera footage of an upwards closeup of a person. The person then looks directly at the camera, and grabs it to move into it's current position. It then grabs an invisible shape, which reveals the RVU logo (a lime spiky bubble shape with "RVU" in it) on the upper-left corner. Then, "Voor de Verandering" writes in below.

Technique: Live-action footage and computer animation.

Audio: A short theme done on a drum set, with three trumpet notes.
