Background

Kazakhfilm is the main film studio of the former Kazakh Soviet Republic and modern Kazakhstan. Started in 1934 as "Alma-Ata Cinema Chronicle Studio", began to produce feature films in 1941. During WWII it harbored the evacuated Mosfilm and Lenfilm equipment and continued film shooting. In 1960 the studio was renamed "Kazakhfilm".



1st Logo (March 1963-1965)

Visuals: The name "КАЗАХФИЛЬМ", made in a semicircular font, appears underneath a stylized set of tan mountain outlines. Sun rays are seen shooting over the center mountain's peak. The copyright year is placed below the logo.

Variants:

  • There is a black and white version of this logo.
  • An alternate version has the logo on a brown background, on top of yellow coloring for the sun rays and gray for the rest.
  • On Следы уходят за горизонт Тұлпардың ізі, the logo is superimposed into the background.

Audio: Beginning of the film.

Availability: It can be seen on Меня зовут Кожа, Перекресток, and Следы уходят за горизонт Тұлпардың ізі.

2nd Logo (1966-May 16, 1983, November 7, 2008-November 1, 2018)

Visuals: The underlined name "КАЗАХФИЛЬМ" appears over a stylized frame with mountain outline. The year mark may appear below.

Variants:

  • The design of the logo has seen minor variations, particularly during its first run. The logo may be wider or thinner, the mountains may be connected to each other, the frame may have its right section cut off, among other differences.
  • An alternate version of the frame may have it resemble an upside down, rounded trapezoid.
  • A Kazakh language version has the “K” and "X" letters change to their local analogues “Қ”.
  • On Красные камни, the logo is placed on the bottom right corner.
  • The logo is paired with the Mosfilm logo on Vkus khleba where both of them are on a green-like background and the text "CO-PRODUCTION" underneath them.

Availability:

  • It appeared on many Kazakh films from the late 60's to early 80's starting with Тревожное утро and ending with Соленая река детства.
    • Around the time of the latter film, the company switched back to in-credit text disclaimers.
  • This logo was used in tandem with the 4th logo on feature-length films, although it saw less usage in its initial run's later years.
  • The alternate frame variant appeared on Алма-Ата, Чемпион, and Месяц на размышление.

  • Visuals: Sometimes, the logo is seen without its frame, leaving just the company name and its underline.

    Availability: This variant has appeared on a few films from the 1960's and the early 1980's, which include Мың шақырымдық жол, Звучи, там-там!, Последний переход, and Родные степи.

    Variants:

    • Sometimes, the logo is blue.
    • On Ребятки и малышата, the logo is dodger blue. Small text is added below the logo, reading "Шәкен Айманов атындағы «Қазақфильм» акционерлік қоғамы".
    • On Зеркальных дел мастер, the following text is shown below the logo:

    • On Прыжок Афалины, the logo is against a background filled with strobe lights on the top right and bottom left. "PRESENTS:" in Kazakh is placed below the logo.
    • On Тығырықтан жол тапқан, the logo is seen on a typewriter.

    Availability:

    • This logo was revived on Прощай, Гульсары! and used in tandem with the 8th and 9th logos.
    • While not the main logo throughout its second lifespan, it still appeared on several films such as А-ға and Саташ, the latter of which would be this logo's final appearance.
    • The blue variant can be found on Мелодии жизни and Өмір сазы.

    3rd Logo (1967-1977)

    Visuals: This logo usually contains a stylized bird inside a circle and the company name underneath it. The design for this logo is not consistent.

    Variants:

    • Depending on the short:
      • Почему у ласточки хвост рожками: Different from the usual elements seen in the other variants, the circle is omitted and the bottom of the bird is seen with a wide, white filmstrip with gray film holes containing the company name in a stylized font and stacked format. The background for this variant is blue.
      • Ақсақ құлан: the bird is shaped like a crescent moon and against a steel blue background.
      • Прозрение: The background is light green, the bird is skinny and has some shading and details, and is inside a gold circle.
      • В стране розовых коз: Set on a green background, the bird is outlined and stylized like the Sigma symbol within a circle with a lighter shade of green filled in.
    • The copyright year may be included below the logo.

    Availability: This logo appears on short films, some of which are animated. These include Почему у ласточки хвост рожками, Ақсақ құлан, and В стране розовых коз.

    4th Logo (December 15, 1975-1983)

    Visuals: On a black background, the company name is in an old Cyrillic font on top of an underline. The copyright year in a normal font is placed below the line.

    Variant: Starting in 1981, the copyright year was removed.

    Technique: A printed image filmed by a camera.

    Audio: None.

    Availability: This was the company's main logo at this time, being used on many feature films from the late 70's to the early 80's, debuting on Храни свою звезду and last appearing on Долгий млечный путь. After 1983, Kazakhfilm's feature-length movies have an text indicator at the beginning instead of a logo.

    5th Logo (April 1, 1977)

    Visuals: There are five mountain tops on the top of the screen. The right-most has no details and the tallest is behind the second mountain to the left. The company name in an Arial font and with two bullet points next to it is seen underneath the picture.

    Technique: Traditional ink and paint.

    Audio: None.

    Availability: Only appeared on Транссибирский Экспресс.

    6th Logo (1980-1987)

    Visuals: Compared to the 3rd logo, the design here is more consistent: it involves a stylized apple where the right half resembles on and the left is made up of a bird with its wings spread out and three film holes over and underneath its legs. Like said logo, the company name is seen below. The background may vary on the short.

    Variants:

    • Its design has seen changes for each short using this logo:
      • Көзілдірікті қоян: The background is light blue and the font for the company name is in a curvy font.
      • Кайчи: The background is brown, the company name is in a Western-themed font, and the symbol is smaller.
      • Цыплёнок: The background is black.
      • Дача: The background is turquoise and "FILMSTUDIO" is placed over the company name.
      • Чьи уши лучше: Set on a green background, the company name is in a smaller serif font.

    Availability: It mainly appears on short films from the early 1980's, which include Көзілдірікті қоян, Кайчи, Дача, and Чьи уши лучше.

    7th Logo (2006)

    Visuals: On a black background, the 2nd logo is seen but in gold. Behind it, a blue burst shines for the whole duration of the logo before dying down.

    Technique: 2D computer animation.

    Audio: None.

    Availability: Only seen on Менікі.

    8th Logo (June 26, 2009-2015)

    Visuals: A modern, silvery white version of the second logo appears and shines.

    Variant: A variant exists where this sequence was redone with more reflections and shining.

    Technique: CGI animation.

    Audio: None.

    Availability: The company switched to the next logo within a few years. It first appearaed on Келин and was later seen on Момын мен қарақшылар and Қошқар мен теке. The redefined version can be seen on Рывок and the logo's final appearance, Спасая сердца людей.

    9th Logo (March 10, 2010-May 23, 2015)


    Visuals: The sun rises and reveals a silhouette of two mountain peaks. When the sun shines, the 2nd logo fades in and portions of it such as the mountains, sky, and the bottom right of the frame are colored in.

    Variants:

    • The size of the logo may vary.
    • Bottom text may be added below the logo. In English, the text means the company's name is named after Sháken Aimanov.

    Technique: CGI animation.

    Audio: None.

    Availability: It appeared on Жол, Тропинка к облакам, Мақтаншақ қыз, among several others. The logo's final appearance was on Кунанбай.

    10th Logo (December 14, 2013)

    Visuals: Set on a smoky background, the pieces from the previous logos in a stone texture zoom out at different times, merging together within a short span of time. By the time they merge, a fiery glow is cast over the logo, which dies down while the logo stops zooming out.

    Technique: CGI animation.

    Audio: None.

    Availability: Only seen on От-өзен.

    11th Logo (December 16, 2018-)

    Visuals: Starting off on a dimly lit blue background, several large, silver pieces float and pass by the screen. The background crossfades into a real image of a mountain range afterwards with stars appearing on top of them. As the sun rises in between two peaks, the sky crossfades to a picture of a mostly cloudy sky at sunrise. Simultaneously, the silver pieces form the logo from before before briefly darkening from the sun shining its back. The sequence crossfades to a flat version of the logo on a black background, followed by the text "ШӘКЕН АЙМАНОВ АТЫНДАҒЫ “ҚАЗАҚФИЛЬМ" АҚ" jumping in.

    Variants:

    • A Romanized version of the logo exists based on a revised version of the October 2017 Presidential Decree with the company name as "QAZAQFILM". The bottom text now reads "Sháken Aimanov atyndagy «Qazaqfilm» AQ".
    • Sometimes, the logo is shortened.

    Audio: A modern and cool synthesized soundtrack.

    Availability: Its first appearances were on Огонь, мерцающий в сосуде and Путь Лидера. Астана and has appeared on their more recent films and documentaries such as Мерген.
