Background
Madhouse Inc. (stylized as MADHOUSE) is a Japanese animation studio founded in 1972 by ex–Mushi Pro animators, including Masao Maruyama, Osamu Dezaki, Rintaro and Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
(2000s- )
Logo: Over a white background, we see the letters of the word "MAD" emerge from a white liquid pearl surface in reverse order, as the camera pans in close-up above the letters. The camera then spins into perspective, as the word "HOUSE" in a Bold Eurostile font emerges below and shines. A ripple effect appears and turns the background red, while the logo turns into plain white and stops zooming out.
Variants:
- Film releases by the company have it start with the "MAD" text fully revealed.
- A short version exists where the logo is already formed.
- Stitch! has the logo still and further zoomed in.
Technique: CGI animation.
Music/Sounds: A saxophone that plays a descending melody repeated twice, and then an ascending three-note repeated seven times.
Availability: Current. It mostly appears on movies by the studio, including Redline, Wolf Children and recent prints of Perfect Blue. The full-length version only appears on DVDs from their anime shows. The still variant appears on the Disney collaboration series Stitch!.
