Background
Halftone Animation was a logo used by Edwin Catmull and Fred Parke on their 1972 CGI project "A Computer Animated Hand". The name refers to the second sequence in the film, which used halftone to create the animation.
Logo (July 31, 1972)
Visuals: The text "HALFTONE ANIMATION" comes slowly towards the screen, leaving a trail, which slowly merges with the text. The text crumbles inside-out and morphs to say "ED CATMULL FRED PARKE". The text becomes 3D, and rotates, using the hollow-face illusion, turning into the text "UNIVERSITY OF UTAH" as it does. The text then flies towards the screen.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: None.
Availability: Seen on "A Computer Animated Hand".
Legacy: It was the oldest-known CGI logo documented on this wiki.
