Forum:My opinion on AVID Heroes

Note before reading: my thoughts posted below no longer stand (exclusing the "include mascots" part). Initially, I found myself against the decision to include mascots for the wiki. That is until some research and understanding of their purpose led me to re-consider my stance. While I now believe mascots help represent the fun side of this community after having a major professional side with all of these RFCs and rules, I would like to give my thoughts on the likeliest spokescharacters everyone is cheering about. I find myself apart from that majority. None of these characters fit not only the branding of this site but the purpose of logos as well. You consider Jeff the Tree Frog redeemed and as a comic relief of the trio, but like before, I still don't see what he has to do with logos. Ace appears to describe the site the best, but even with that, him, along with Jeff and Vivi, feel more like mascots for children's video games and TV shows from the 90's/2000's than for a wiki that looks clean and professional. I am not saying they should look that way, but their appearances feel out of place and dated for a site that has a smooth, modern, and vibrant appearance as opposed to retro, cartoony, and stylized. Their color schemes clearly show they stick out of AVID's colorful and bright palette. But if there is something we all can agree with, they are better than Team AVID. |

That's what I was trying to explain in the other forum thread. I didn't see a need for mascots because they didn't fit the site. |

Well, whatever it is, the community is extremely supportive over mascots. And due to the rfc, there is no chance we are gonna gives these guys up. Soo... Get ready to see this face for a long while lol. |

I don't really get what you're trying to say here. Ace, Vivi and Jeff ARE colourful and vibrant; as a matter of fact they use the exact same colour palette the site does. Plus, how are we going to make mascots that directly tie in to logos? Would you rather us just have the Viacom V of Doom as the mascot? PLUS plus, what's wrong with them being cartoony? It's certainly a breath of fresh air from all the moe-anthropomorphic anime girls used by other wikis. Again, I don't know what you want us to do here. |

Rare Camenati L. Nancer's comments pretty much say everything I have to say here. |

After hearing your counterargument, I reconsider. My stance was not a strong opposition against these mascots in the first place. Their potential and the artwork done by fellow members on the site made me view them more positively than I did beforehand. |

You consider Jeff the Tree Frog redeemed and as a comic relief of the trio, but like before, I still don't see what he has to do with logos. Jeff went from a frog.png on a Paint 3D logo to an actual good inside joke on the wiki in a 3 month time period. Jeff is my son and he has a bright future on this wiki, logo relation or not. Also, he would make for a good comic relief character now that I think for it. |

Would you rather us just have the Viacom V of Doom as the mascot? The thought of that made me laugh. But yeah, to be real, I don't see how we can make this work without drama. I imagine eventually, someone's gonna be furious at the thought of these "mascots". |

But yeah, to be real, I don't see how we can make this work without drama. I imagine eventually, someone's gonna be furious at the thought of these "mascots". Rule 8 of User conduct guidelines covers it up If they wanna cry about it, sit back, grab some juice, grab a snack, and watch them cry about it. |

Lmao 789 losing an argument to Charlie god-damn Fiddlesticks. What else am I supposed to say? At this point, I'd probably be repeating the same things; how "mascots wouldn't fit the site at all", how "we can't work with this at all"...

So what reasons do you think somebody would have for acting furious at the idea of mascots anyway? |

I just thought someone wouldn't think they fit the theme of the site, like I do. |

Even the Lost Media Wiki has a mascot. Why so mad? Thing is, I didn't come to the Lost Media Wiki until well after the mascot came, and I almost never notice it. When I did notice, however, I could say that they tried to make her fit the theme of the site. With our (presumed) mascots, they stick out like a sore thumb and don't fit the site at all. I don't see any of these "mascots" with logos in mind. I just see them as cartoon characters. Like, what would a frog do that's related to logos?? You can make as many "mascots" as you want; they just won't fit the logo theme that we strive for. |

Can't I just prove a point on how this is a bad idea? We never had mascots during the CLG Wiki days, we don't need them now. Okay, it seems 789's comment disappearedso I'll just quote it above. The argument there already about not having a mascot during the CLG Wiki era shouldn't necessitate us not having one now. As I said, people clearly know what they want, if the RfC says anything. You can keep proving a point but it's clear basically no one will agree. Just let us experiment and have fun. |

Also, to add to Metronome's response, the CLG days are over. Just because something didn't happen during that era doesn't mean we shouldn't try new ideas. |

I am back to finish up Would you rather us just have the Viacom V of Doom as the mascot? Or the Screen Gems "S from Yellow"? Or the Spiffy Pictures "Fox Dog"? Rare Camenati L. Boldness in Bold. What else am I supposed to say? At this point, I'd probably be repeating the same things; how "mascots wouldn't fit the site at all", how "we can't work with this at all"... Kinda what you have been doing but alr "Okay then, Mr Smart guy, whats the striving THEME of the logo then?" This may sound crazy....This may sound insane.....but... color..... Can't I just prove a point on how this is a bad idea? We never had mascots during the CLG Wiki days, we don't need them now. Y'know, sometimes I feel like AVID and CLG are different things. AVID is more modern and vibrant, while CLG is just...uhh. Even the CLG logo was just black with outlines, while AVID is in living color (hah). If we never had a mascot during CLG, now is the time to make a change. Charlie deleted them don't blame mee, blame DPLForum Just give up, man. The more Ls you post, the more ridicule you're going to recieve. Twitter, Reddit, etc I just thought someone wouldn't think they fit the theme of the site, like I do. (uh oh I hear the grammar shark) Wouldn't or would? If they wouldn't think that, then they wouldn't be mad. Ace appears to describe the site the best, but even with that, him, along with Jeff and Vivi, feel more like mascots for children's video games and TV shows from the 90's/2000's than for a wiki that looks clean and professional. Someone said that exact thing for one of my AVID logo submissions but I don't remember which. I think it was the Witless font one. Their color schemes clearly show they stick out of AVID's colorful and bright palette. Isn't Jeff the same color as the green AVID gradient? I am not saying they should look that way, but their appearances feel out of place and dated for a site that has a smooth, modern, and vibrant appearance as opposed to retro, cartoony, and stylized. Smooth and vibrant literally describe cartoon mascot characters. But if there is something we all can agree with, they are better than Team AVID.
