Hi, I've been watching the Bond movies on the Bulgarian version of HBO GO, and I wanted to share my observations on the logos and prints used.
- All prints are pan-and-scanned to 16:9 HD.
- All films start with an MGM logo. All but two (see below) made before 2002 have the 2001 logo with the URL.
- All films from You Only Live Twice to For Your Eyes Only (except those listed below) and from GoldenEye to Tomorrow Never Dies have the 2001 UA logo after that, replacing whatever the original UA logo would have been.
- All films up to The World Is Not Enough end with the 2001 short MGM logo. The print logos at the end of the credits (if any) are retained.
- Most prints seem to be based on the HD restorations from 2005 and with the exceptions below, all have Lowry Digital "pristine" restoration credits tacked after the film ends and before the MGM end logo.
- The Spy Who Loved Me has the 2008 MGM logo and a newer UA logo without any bylines. The transfer also seems to be a newer one and there are no Lowry credits at the end.
- On Her Majesty's Secret Service for some reason starts with the 90s MGM logo and the 2000 (!) UA logo, but the end MGM logo is still the 2001 version.
- GoldenEye has the 2001 UA logo with the 1994 music. There are no Lowry credits for some reason.
- The MGM/UA lion, the 1987 MGM/UA logo and the 1999 75th anniversary lion are replaced.
- For Your Eyes Only has a weird attempt to pan-and-scan the gunbarrel sequence by following the white circles.
- Some Brosnan films seem to have the text of the opening credits printed in a different way to fit the 16:9 frame.
- The Craig movies have what logos are to be expected. Only Spectre has an MGM closing logo after the Columbia end credit. The 16:9 frames seem to have extra picture at the top and bottom compared to the theatrical version, which I guess the filming format they used allows.
I am curious if this is how they appear on other streaming services (or on disk or TV?).
Well, that was all. Have a nice day!
