What are the requirements to become a bureaucrat? Just wondering!
[[AVID:Bureaucrats]] is the technical minimum. There are social requirements. These are not official, but anyone stumbling on this thread should consider these. * You must be well known in the community. On top of that: known as mature, a solver (not a causer) of incidents, and a hard worker. * You should be in close contact and friendly with existing admins and bureaucrats. Realistically if you aren't 'in the know' then you can't be an effective bureaucrat, or admin for that matter. * There must be a clear need. Bureaucrat isn't a role that does much. So even if you have the above you'd have to justify why the community would need a 4th when there are currently 3 active and in good standing. Realistically these requirements apply to any staff role, just to lesser extents. They're good to keep in mind for aspiring admins. Moderators will likely worry less about 2 and 3 given the limited responsibility/introductory nature of the role, but should have both in mind before and after going for the role. They should at least satisfy point 1 before attempting. Obviously knowledge of policy and practice, being a regular helper in other roles (or with no roles at all) and proven skill with MediaWiki help greatly especially the more advanced one's rights become. Also see [[AVID:Requests for Adminship]] for more specific expectations. Note that bureaucrat is a role added on top of being an admin, so anything that applies to admin applies and more here. 2c from an ex-Steward., hope this helps someone who's thinking about requesting rights.
